Task 2_ Key Artwork and Collateral

INSTRUCTION
MIB

Task 2A _ Key Artwork
For Task 2A, we are assigned to design a key artwork, that needs a key role and functions like the artwork but is a logo/mark that consists of letters. A key artwork that is used to identify a person, besides that we are assigned to slab it onto a lapel pin/T-shirt/poster and etc.  (collateral). We are allowed to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to manipulate, this task is to challenge our observation skills, how much we understand the image and forms and our creative development for this task.

References and Sketches

In the beginning, my direction was not clear hence I find an object that represent something that I would like to challenge in my life, For fig 1.1, my inspiration was about I hope that my personality can be calm as a rock. For Fig 1.2, the idea was about myself that normally I don't drink alcoholic drinks and would like to challenge myself.

However, after the feedback and advice from Mr Vinod, he suggested that before we create a 'key artwork', we should have a mind map and select the one that can represent ourselves.

Personally, I preferred #6 as I like how the placing of letters 'C' and the letter 'T'. However, Mr Vinod suggested that try not to create monograms, and think of another way to design our own logo with our names.

Task 2B _ Collateral

Task 2B, this assignment involved developing a brand based on our primary artwork. The first step of the assignment was to select a suitable colour scheme from Colour Hunt. Light yellow is one of my favourite colours that I identify with myself, therefore I went with a cool colour scheme that had soft pink and yellowish undertones. This choice gives a delicate and calming feel to it.

Photography:
In week 7, during class, we were assigned to take a photo by using a black-and-white filter and placing our key artwork on it. Moreover, we need to find a few items for our branding. The work must be displayed in 1024x1024 pixels at 300 ppi; if the file is too large more than 3MB, save it at 150 ppi. The developed assets must be used and displayed creatively on our Instagram. The last step is to screen capture our Instagram with our assets creatively displayed.

Based on Mr Vinod's feedback, he mentioned that trying to fix a theme of the product, should focus either on 'Vintage' or 'Cosmetic' but preferably on Vintage Items.

FEEDBACK
Week 5
General Feedback:
Need to search the meaning of its own, a logo that represents you may try to use the method of a mind map. The form is reflective of the mutuality of a person, a good dart is distinctive enough to let people remember even by just a short glance. Good balance of the white area and the black area should be evenly balanced, we can look directly at the object first or may half close our eyes as well and judge the weight of the object, then draw a square from the edge of one side to another side of the edges 'object', it forms a perimeter and judges the weight of the white area and the black area again.
Specific Feedback:
It is creative. Can consider alighting the letter 'T' and 'Y' together, the weight of the strokes can be thinner, making it the same, the overall looks too long thus try to shorten it and can try a different attempt of putting another letter 'C' at the middle to carry the difference.

Week 6
Specific Feedback:
#6 Compromising the readability of C, not legible and readable. If want to think out of the box write the word of Christine and break it out. #7 doesn't look like the letter 'C'.

Week 7
Specific Feedback:
The poster of alignment is interesting but be aware of the sentence, don't overtake the letters. The Key artwork of the letter 'I' is lacking its meaning of 'think out of the box'.

Week 8
Independent self-learning.

Week 9
Make sure profiles are written professionally, and give a brief introduction to your own branding. Choose either 'Vintage item' or 'cosmetic' preferably focusing on 'Vintage Item'.

REFLECTION
Experience
This work gave me the opportunity to experiment with contemporary ideas and carry out my goals. I was interested in projects that challenged my perspective, imagination, and specialised capacity, from the initial ideation and sketching stage to the final introduction. Although it was challenging for me to think of what I actually needed to do, this exercise made me consider almost how I needed to talk to my brand and to myself. I work extremely hard for this meeting since it has taught me how to be more creative.

Observation
During the design process of the important artwork, I saw that each and every little detail has a significant impact on the piece. Less is more when it comes to developing a distinctive brand that stands out; our goal for this task should be to convey our own character into our business in the fewest feasible details. There should be a select few things that make a brand stand out from competitors rather than many details. I also noticed that a brand identity is made up of all the hues and collateral that go with it, not just a crucial piece of art. The primary piece of art serves as the identity's cornerstone, and the supporting materials build on it to produce a distinctive brand.

Findings
What I learned from this task is that creating a logo/own branding is difficult but it can also be very satisfying. At first, it is challenging to create a logo that has your own personal trait and need to design the idea. Through this project, I learned how important visual communication is to design and how difficult it is for me to put it first. Instead of whether the design is understandable and "makes sense" to viewers, I frequently care more about the presentation of the design. For Task 2B, I had to constantly remind myself that it was all about typography and staying on topic. I am not satisfied with the Final Outcome as I feel that it is lacking an impactful logo/signature.

Capital & Lowercase Letters:
Text is set entirely in capital letters, it loses legibility, placing the reader at a significant disadvantage. In this chapter, the text demonstrates that a word set in all capital letters is characterised by a straight horizontal alignment, creating an even word outline with letters of similar shape and size. Moreover, typing set in this manner severely retards reading - more so than any other legibility factor. A reader that is not been provided with visual cues that make words recognizable.
